You can thank a large area of high pressure for the calm weather that is expected to last through the weekend.  The center of that high is anchored over western New England as of midday so we expect plenty of sunshine yet again across central New York.  With the high so close there also be very little in the way of a breeze.  The strong May sun will go to work and will warm us into the 70s.

Over the weekend, as high pressure moves off the coast, our winds should swing into the south-southwest.  This means we will start to ‘import’ warmer air adding to the warming of the sun.  Temperatures Saturday and Sunday should be at least 10 degrees above normal for the end of May.

There is still some uncertainty as to the details of the forecast early next week but the combination of moisture moving north along the East Coast an approaching cold front will mean our weather will be a bit more unsettled.  Right now it looks like our best chance for showers and thunderstorms will come on Tuesday.
