Third suspect arrested in Irey burglary case

Watertown police have arrested a man they believe is an accomplice of two burglary suspects arrested last week for allegedly entering a Mill Street apartment, beating the resident and making off with $300.

John D. Deegan, 23, of 200 Maple Street, Brownville was charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Petit Larceny and Assault 3rd Degree  when he was taken into custody at his residence shortly before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Deegan, along with 18-year-old Britton Grant of Brownville and 19-year-old Paul Chamberlain of Watertown, is suspected of participating in the burglary at the apartment of Jeremy Irey on May 13th.

According to investigators, Mr. Irey was punched in the head and face during the incident.

At his arraignment in City of Watertown Court this morning, bail for Deegan was set at $25,000. Also at the arraignment, a preliminary hearing was set for May 22nd.
