It’s becoming easier for people to post funny and shocking home videos on the internet.
Over the course of 2011, many of those videos received over a million hits on You Tube making them a ‘viral video.’ Out of the thousands of videos that hit the million mark, five of the viral videos toped the charts.
So what were the top five viral videos of 2011? You just might be surprised.
#5 Nyan Cat
With 55 million hits over the course of 2011, Nyan Cat was an internet sensation. After the original video was posted other individuals took the video and remixed it, spreading the video farther than expected.
#4 Talking Twin Babies
Everyone loves a cut baby video, but this one took the cake. These two twins appear to be having an in depth conversation with one another. Their banter back and forth brought this video to 56 million views.
#3 Jack Sparrow
The Saturday Night Live skit features Michael Bolton and Andy Samberg, as they make a music video about Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. This video brought in over 62 million hits.
#2 Ultimate Dog Tease
Talking pets are always a hit on the internet, but for the Ultimate Dog Tease dubbing in a dogs response to some delicious refrigerator contents took this viral video to over 78 million hits. Currently, the talking dog in this video is now featured on Esurance.

Rebbeca Black’s ‘Friday’ video, paid for by her parents, was the biggest viral video of 2011. ‘Friday’ made the viral video list the first week it was on You Tube and has racked in an overwhelming 180 million views.
