Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Two Fort Drum Soldiers were killed in Afghanistan Wednesday after their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.
Sergeant Daniel A. Rodriguez, 28, of Maryland and Sergeant Jose J. Reyes, 24, of Puerto Rico were both assigned to the 10th Mountain Division with the 110th Transportation Company, 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Drum.
Rodriquez joined the Army in July of 2002. He arrived in Fort Drum eight years later in March of 2010. He most recently deployed with his unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in April 2012.
Rodriguez was a highly decorated Soldier. He was awarded two purple hearts, the Army Commendation Medal, three achievement medals, as well as the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and many, many others.
Rodriguez is survived by his wife, three children and mother.
Reyes joined the Army in February 2010. He arrived at Fort Drum in May 2010 and deployed with his unit in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom in April 2012.
Reyes also received the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, as well as several others.
Reyes is survived by his wife, two children, mother and father.
