Ukrainian woman with ties to Alex Bay arrested at the border for Kidnapping/Abduction

Alexandria Bay -- A Ukrainian mother who fled the U.S. in 2010 with her 8 year old child was arrested without incident over the weekend as she attempted to re-enter the U.S. at the Canadian Border in Alexandria Bay.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies, on the eve of Independence Day 2010 Svetlana Sorokina was charged with Custodial Interference in the 1st degree when she unlawfully removed the child from her residence at 1 Brierwood Dr., Alexandria Bay and left the Country. The removal was in direct violation of a Jefferson County Family Court Order.

The Sheriff's Office arrest report states that, 38 year old Svetlana Sorokina was most recently living in Simfereol, Ukraine.

She was arraigned in the Town of Alexandria Court and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
