Watertown -- Jane Schmitt, President of the United Way of Northern New York, Inc., announced today that Chief Professional Officer, Jayn M. Graves, has notified the board of directors her plan for retirement on June 30, 2013,
Ms. Graves’ believes this will be a suitable amount of time to complete projects currently underway, preparing well for the 2013 Community Campaign and seeing the 2013 Community Review and United Way funding cycle fully in place.
Mrs. Schmitt said that the announcement did not come as a complete surprise to the Board as Ms. Graves has been interjecting succession planning into a number of United Way issues and discussions over the past year. “Jayn and the Board are ready and positive to begin moving into this transition phase. We all believe this will bode well for the United Way’s future.”
Ms. Graves concluded her letter of pending retirement with the statement that “everyday has been and will continue to be an honor and a privilege to serve the community with you through the United Way”. Mrs. Schmitt indicated that the next step will be for the United Way executive committee and Ms. Graves to meet and begin to map out a timetable for the
transition.
Ms. Graves joined the United Way in June of 1986 and will retire with 27 years of service as the executive of the organization.
