Black River (Nayhan Lehman WTNY) -- A Black River man is facing various charges following an armed standoff last night in the village.

Police say they were called to 106 Wendall Lane just before 10pm Sunday on a report of a suicidal subject at the residence. That individual was identified as 38 year old William Spears.

Police say during phone negotiations with Spears he allegedly tried to leave the residence armed with a tactical shotgun and semi-automatic pistol and wearing a military ballistic vest. He also allegedly rammed his pickup truck into an armored police tactical vehicle that was attempting to block his exit.

Police fired rubber bullets and took Spears into custody. He is charged with reckless endangerment, menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal mischief.

He is due to be arraigned Monday morning.
