Watertown Fire Dept. asks city residents to clear snow away from Fire Hydrants
Watertown -- After almost a foot of snow fell in the city of Watertown on Thursday, the City of Watertown Fire Department is asking city residents to keep fire hydrants clear of snow for the safety of the neighborhood.
According to City Fire Chief Dale Herman, "When responding to a fire, every second counts, and maintaining a clear path to fire hydrants will assist City Fire Crews in performing their job as expediently as possible."
Chief Herman adds that people should also "Make sure that snow does not accumulate around heating appliance's air intakes and exhaust. Incomplete combustion creates carbon monoxide, which in high doses is deadly."
