Watertown man arrested after the stolen car he was driving hits a home on Route 37

Watertown (WWTI) -- A watertown man was arrested early Wednesday morning after the vehicle he was driving, a 2009 Chevrolet Impala which was reported stolen earlier in the evening, was seen by Troopers on Interstate 81 near exit 48. 

Police attempted to stop the car driven by 31 year old Christopher Perciful at the exit ramp, Perciful refused to stop and subsequently lost control of the vehicle, exiting the roadway and striking a residence on State Route 37 in the Town of Watertown.  

Perciful then fled the scene on foot.  A short time later, patrols were notified by an alert citizen that Perciful was at the Longway’s Truck Stop where he was taken into custody without incident.

Perciful was charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, a class "D" felony
  • Driving While Intoxicated, a unclassified misdemeanor
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Mischief 4th degree, a class "A" misdemeanor

Perciful was arraigned in the Town of Pamelia Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail.
