Watertown man faces several charges after attacking Corrections Officers in the county jail

Watertown (Nathan Lehman WTNY) -- A Watertown man is facing a variety of charges, including attacking corrections officers at the Jefferson County Jail. Four officers in all were hurt in the incident.

Police say 35 year old Demearle Gulledge of Huntington St. was being processed at the county jail following an arrest on criminal mischief and vandalism charges for slashing tires on a vehicle Tuesday. Authorities asked him to remove an ornamental shell from his dreadlocks. He refused and it was forcibly removed. This angered Gulledge who then attacked the officers as they were leaving his cell.

The four officers were taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment of bruises and abrasions One officer was bitten on the back of the neck and his ear. Gulledge is now also charged with four counts of second degree assault.

He was ordered held in the jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
