Watertown— According to the Center for Disease Control, heart disease takes the lives of 600,000 people annually and is the leading cause of death in both men and women.
385,000 people die from coronary heart disease every year with an astounding 935,000 people suffering from heart attacks. In an effort to support women who have suffered with heart disease, February 1st is the 10th annual “go red” day. The American Heart Association celebrates saving women from heart disease within the Watertown area for 10 years now.
This National Wear Red Day, will be officially proclaimed by Mayor Jeff Graham at the Watertown City Hall. Women are encouraged to wear red in support of this cause to fight against heart disease and bring awareness to the community.

· Heart disease survivor Donna Kinney will share her story and important information women need to know to protect themselves and fight heart disease.
Additional Events:
Additional events in the North Country include:
· Kinney Drugs employees at all local stores will be wearing red and selling red dress pins to increase awareness.
· Red dress pins will be sold at the Privateers game, along with a 50/50 raffle to benefit the American Heart Association. Fans are encouraged to wear red.
