It’s been a busy spring at the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park.

The NYS Zoo has many new additions including the birth of a pack of wolf cubs, a baby otter, and thanks to the support of a local grant the zoo has made finding out about their upcoming events easier.

Executive Director John Wright says that the zoo is working hard this year to make the zoo the best learning environment possible. Grounds throughout the zoo are being revamped and new exhibits are growing.

Two newest additions that are on display currently include a male lynx and the introduction of cougar ‘Ninja.’

Over the last few months the NYS Zoo has also welcomed a pack of wolf cubs and a female otter ‘Molly.’

The wolf cubs are getting acclimated with keepers and staff and are growing each day. The cubs will be on display over the next few weeks.

Baby otter Molly is also growing and developing her skills while off exhibit with her mother. Both are healthy and happy, and with the help of her mother Molly is learning to swim, a skill that keepers say is necessary for her to be on exhibit with the adult otters.

Wright says that the introduction of new baby animals at the zoo allows for visitors to learn more about the animal’s upbringing and conservation.

On top of all the new babies and exhibits at the zoo, Wright says that the zoo entrance now sports a television that will broadcast events, scheduled lectures and other important bulletins that visitors can take advantage of.
