A convoy of windmill towers came to a halt in southern Jefferson County when one of the towers rolled off the highway and into a cornfield.
It happened on State Route 3 in Ellisburg early Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities say the rig hauling the giant tower veered across the highway and the trailer snapped off the tractor.
The trailer, with windmill tower still attached, rolled into the cornfield.
The accident damaged the asphalt, leading to repairs that closed Route 3 for more than three hours.
The highway will be closed again for a period on Friday as the tower is retrieved from the field.
