(WSYR-TV) With cold air crossing Lake Ontario, heavy lake effect snow is in the forecast for areas between Watertown and Syracuse today.

The heaviest snow will be focused on the Tug Hill Plateau portions of Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties.  Lake effect snow warnings are in effect and in the more persistent snows, a foot or more of snow could fall.

Outside of any lake effect today, wind will be the big story.  Winds could gust past 30 mph putting wind chills close to 0 during the afternoon.

If you are travelling south today, call ahead and give yourself plenty of extra travel time to get to your destination.
