(WSYR-TV, Syracuse) The weather during the middle of the week will become quite active as a major winter storms heads up along the East Coast.  The storm is currently over the mid Mississippi Valley headed northeast today.  By this evening, the storm will begin to reform along the mid Atlantic Coast.

For our area, the heart of this storm will be tonight.  Before that, our clouds will increase today but we think that snow will hold off until just after sunset.  When the snow arrives it will quickly pick up in intensity and for a while tonight the snow will be falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.  In addition to the heavy snow, our winds will be rather gusty out of the east causing considerable blowing and drifting snow. Travel will be extremely difficult Wednesday night into the first part of Thursday

By Thursday morning, low pressure will be near New York City and will shift east off Cape Cod by later in the day.  This means that even though the snow will continue throughout the day Thursday we feel the snow intensity will decrease.

It looks like the heaviest snow from this storm will fall over the Finger Lakes north into Oswego County up to Watertown, where 12-18” are possible by the time things wind down Thursday afternoon and in isolated spots, 2 feet of snow could fall.
