Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Polamalu hasn't played since aggravating a right calf injury versus the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 7. The injury initially occurred in the season opener and he missed two games before making a brief return earlier this month.

Offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle) will also sit out his third straight game.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that running back Rashard Mendenhall will be cleared to start individual work on Wednesday. Mendenhall has missed the past two games with an Achilles injury.

Fellow running back Isaac Redman (ankle) is scheduled to practice on Wednesday after being held out of the last two contests.
